About Veronicka

My name is Veronicka Vega and I’m running for House District 49 because it has been my home for over half my life. I want to be able to afford to continue to live here and be proud to call it my home.

I graduated from Woonsocket High School in 2017 and supported myself through college as a first-generation college student. I earned my Bachelor of Science in public health in 2024 from Johnson & Wales University. I’m pursuing my Master’s in Public Administration from Roger Williams University with aspirations to attend law school after.

I come from a working class background raised by a single mother who would work two jobs to support us. I was inspired by her to work hard to become the person that I am today. She’s a proud union member and I’m a proud non-profit employee working in community development.

We’ve overcome homelessness, poverty, food instability, lack of reliable transportation, and more. We wouldn’t be where we are today without organizations and programs like EBT, free school lunch programs, Community Care Alliance, RiverzEdge Arts, and Connecting for Children and Families.

I currently sit on the board of directors for Sojourner House, Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative, and McAuley Ministries. I’ve completed Rhode Island League of Cities and Town’s Municipal Leadership Academy, Leadership RI’s College Leadership Program, and the Women’s Fund of RI’s Women’s Policy Institute. In my free time I like to read and walk my Husky named Zeus.

District 49 has been my home for almost half of my life. If elected, I’ll be thinking of my neighbors, friends, and families every day when I’m in that State House, fighting to make our little slice of Rhode Island better.
